Understanding The National
Disability Insurance Scheme
The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is the Australian Government initiative designed to deliver necessary support and care to people with disabilities promptly and effectively. The scheme caters for people with permanent or partial disabilities. It aims to help them with the funds and care they need to perform their daily activities independently and comfortably.
The NDIS bears support costs to cover all aspects of life, including education, employment, health and well-being, independent living, and community participation. The support and care are given for a lifetime so that people with disabilities can live their life the way they want.
Are You Eligible to Receive the NDIS?
To be eligible for the NDIS, you must fulfil the following criteria:
- Must be aged 7 to 65 years old. Those older than 65 years must have been participants before age 65.
- Must possess Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Citizenship or holds a special category visa.
- Dependent on other persons for support due to a permanent and significant disability.
- Have been accessing special equipment regularly due to a permanent and significant disability.

NDIS Approval Process
If you are eligible for NDIS coverage, ALCS will assist you in accessing the request forms, completing them, and submitting them to the NDIA. Once the NDIA approves your eligibility, they will create your NDIS Plan (Package). ALCS is registered to provide support coordination services, but we are happy to link you to a local support coordinator if that is your choice. The support coordinator will help to engage with other service providers.
